Widenote turns what you say or type into organized notes, to-dos, and ledger entries. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have.
This policy applies whether or not you've signed in — Widenote works fully without an account, and only asks you to sign in if you want your notes to follow you across devices.
1. Information We Collect
Content you provide: the notes, voice recordings (converted to text on your device or through your phone's built-in speech recognition), and photos you capture or select inside the app. This is the core content Widenote organizes for you.
Account information: if you sign in with Apple, we receive a stable account identifier from Apple, and — only on your very first sign-in, and only if you allow it — your name and email address. We use this solely to identify your account and let you recover your notes on a new device.
Device and diagnostic information: an anonymous device identifier, app version, operating system version, and your selected app language. These travel with the app automatically to keep it working correctly and to help us diagnose problems — never sold or used for advertising.
Feedback you submit: if you send feedback from within the app, we receive your message together with the diagnostic information above, so we can understand and reproduce what you're reporting.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- Understand and organize what you record — classify it, group it into notebooks, and extract to-dos, reminders, and ledger entries;
- Keep your notes in sync across your devices, if you're signed in;
- Respond to your feedback and fix problems;
- Keep the app secure and working correctly.
We do not use your notes to build advertising profiles, and Widenote contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
3. AI Processing
Understanding what you say and turning it into organized notes is Widenote's core feature, and it relies on large language model services. The text and images you record are sent to our AI service providers — currently DeepSeek for text understanding, and Alibaba Cloud DashScope for photo understanding — so they can be classified and organized. These providers process your content on our behalf and under our instructions, are required to protect it to a standard equal to this policy, and do not use it to advertise to you. The app tells you about this and asks for your explicit consent before any of your content is sent — nothing is sent until you agree.
4. Local-First Storage
Widenote is local-first: everything you record is saved on your device immediately and works even without an internet connection. Cloud sync, when available, is a background convenience layered on top — your device is always the primary copy of your data.
5. Cloud Sync
Widenote can back up and sync your notes to our servers so you can pick up where you left off on another device. This happens automatically once you're signed in. While signed out, syncing may still occur under an anonymous identity tied to your device, so your data isn't lost if you later choose to sign in — this anonymous identity cannot be traced back to you personally unless you sign in.
6. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- The AI service providers described in Section 3, strictly to process your content;
- Infrastructure providers, such as cloud hosting, that store data on our behalf;
- Law enforcement or other parties, only when required by law.
7. Data Retention
We keep your account and synced data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your account identity and the corresponding data from our servers. Notes stored only on your device remain there until you delete the app or clear its data.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You can:
- Sign out at any time — your notes stay on your device, and syncing simply pauses;
- Delete your account from the app's account center — this permanently removes your cloud data and cannot be undone;
- Contact us (see Section 12) to ask what data we hold about you, or to request its correction or deletion.
9. Children's Privacy
Widenote is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
Data in transit between the app and our servers is encrypted. Sign-in credentials on your device are stored in your operating system's secure keychain rather than in plain storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Widenote grows. If we make material changes, we'll update the date below and, where appropriate, let you know inside the app.
